Bringing a Fresh Look and Feel to Six Microsoft Community Sites

Challenge

The existing hero banners across Microsoft Power Platform's five community sites and Dynamics 365 were outdated and no longer reflected the quality of the Microsoft brand. For millions of users, the hero banner is the first thing they see. The old designs were failing to make that moment count. There was a clear need for a fresh, modern visual identity that felt cohesive across all six platforms.

Process

Research

Started by deeply studying each product — collecting brand keywords, illustration styles, and existing UI patterns across Power Platform and Dynamics 365. Understanding the personality of each product was essential to making each banner feel intentional, not generic

Iteration

Moved through two rounds of design exploration, sketching and refining layout, hierarchy, and visual treatment with each pass. Each round tightened the balance between product individuality and cross-platform consistency.
